BU8 Black Win Presidio League With Perfect Record

Our boys U8 Black team continued their season long winning streak this Saturday to win the league title with 2 games to spare.  The team have built their season around a strong defense allowing just 6 goes against them all year and this was put to the test again this weekend against a good SDSC team.  After a rare poor half from the team they stepped up in the second half and two goals was enough to wrap up the title in front of a delighted home crowd at Pine.

Head Coach Nick Howitt said “ I am extremely proud of all the boys.  For a team to play in their first year of competitive soccer and perform in the way they have is fantastic.  Every team member has really contributed and with the speed at which this team is developing I really believe this team will go far over the coming years.  We would like to finish with 2 more wins to complete the perfect season although for me regardless what happens in our remaining two fixtures it has been a pleasure to coach such a nice group of boys and they thoroughly deserve to be Champions.”

Tournament Director Steve Cowell “Our second annual Coastal Classic exceeded our own expectations, and was a fantastic experience for the club.  The quality of competition was again first rate, with the top brackets providing some excellent competition for elite level teams, and our second and third brackets providing some great games and quality competition for all levels of play.   Events like this really help to put our club on the map, and give us great exposure on the Cal South Soccer Scene.  Everything ran smoothly, and I am proud of our members for hosting such a great event.”

“At Wave we always strive to improve the quality of everything we do, and I am already looking at improvements for the 2013 edition, which will be held the weekend of August 10-11 2013.”

SeaLions Ride The Wave!

Wave players received a special treat during their training camp at Aviara Park on Wednesday, when the San Diego SeaLions showed up to meet the girls!

SeaLions players and coaches were on hand to talk with the girls about their experiences growing up with soccer, and gave advice on what it takes to succeed as a female soccer player at the highest level.  The players signed autographs, took pictures, and even worked out with the U12-15 girls in the afternoon, putting the Wave players through their paces.

Wave’s very own Coach and San Diego SeaLion MICHELLE RAMIREZ was on hand, and was a huge hit with the girls.

Wave Director Of Coaching Steve Cowell: “We are very excited that the Sealions came out to meet our Wave players.  In a sport where participation numbers are even between girls and boys, but the majority of coaches are male, it’s very important that the girls have positive female role models who are active in the game… We are especially proud of our very own Wave coach Michelle Ramirez, an impact player for the Sealions, and someone who is great to have in our club, to pass on her knowledge to our girls, and provide them with an excellent role model.  We hope to see the Sealions here with the Wave again soon.”

The San Diego SeaLions return home to Cathedral Catholic High on July 8 to take on Beach FC at 2:00PM. This is the last regular season match for San Diego, and will determine whether or not they will advance to the playoffs. Come out and show your support for Women’s Soccer, and your very own Carlsbad Wave coach and SeaLions’ defender, Michele Ramirez. Let’s get your SeaLions to the playoffs!

Go Wave, and Go SeaLions!!

Wave Coaches Put Through Their Paces

This past weekend (May 4,5,6), the Wave competitive coaching staff were put through their paces at Buena Vista Elementary School as the entire staff took the NSCAA Junior Level 6 Diploma.

The course was 21 hours in length, and included 5 classroom hours, focusing on coaching methodology and systems of play, and 16 field hours, working through various coaching practices, and completing with assessment of the Wave coaches.  All coaches achieved the diploma, and were very tired at the end of Sunday!

We were honored to have two of the best instructors around to lead the course, Joe Supe (Irvine Valley College Head Coach, USSF, UEFA and Briazilian “A” License, and NSCAA Premier Diploma), and Wayne Harrison (Former Academy Director Blackpool FC, England, UEFA “A” License, NSCAA Premier Diploma).

Lead Instructor Joe Supe:  ”Thanks for hosting the course! Everything was up to standard and very professionally done in term of facilities, coaches and the organization. It was a very good group and the environment very conducive to learning.. I would love to do a National course with Wave in the near future”…

Wave Director Of Coaching Steve Cowell: “Huge thanks to my coaching staff for their efforts this past weekend.  I was really pleased with the work I saw on the field, and I feel that as a club, we are definitely much better prepared for the 2012-13 competitive season.  As a coach, you should always have an attitude that you want to better yourself, and improve, and the best way to do this is to be around other coaches.  The same way we expect our players to improve, we should be expected to improve as well”.

“Coach education will continue to be a priority here at Wave.  I don’t feel this is being taken seriously enough by clubs in So Cal, and I am 100% committed to giving my coaches the tools they will need to succeed and drive the club forwards”.
