Wave’s Coach Michele gets Pro Soccer contract in Sweden

Coach Michele Ramirez has accepted a 6 month contract to play professional soccer for Ostersunds DFF of Sweden, who are in the 2nd Division.

Coach Michele, who currently plays for the San Diego Sea Lions has been quoted as saying she is “ecstatic” with the deal which allows her to fulfill her lifelong dream of playing Professional Soccer.

Michele joined the Wave 2 years ago to begin her career in coaching. As a dedicated coach she was in charge of the GU14 and GU10 teams, Michele also help run our Spring League and Wave Summer Camps. Although her career as a coach was going from strength to strength, Coach Michele was offered the chance to play full time pro soccer in Sweden a little over a week ago. After a turbulent few days Michele knew the offer was too good to turn down and accepted a 6 month deal.

Obviously we are sad to have lost an important member of staff and also a great person but we couldn’t be more pleased for Coach Michele and wish her the very best of luck!  There will be hundreds of fans here at the Wave supporting her all the way and as a club would always welcome her back…after a glittering career in Europe of course!

Wave Golf Day a Huge Success

Pictures from the event can be viewed on the Wave Facebook Page

Monday May 6th 2013 – El Camino Country Club

After much preparation Monday brought the first ever Carlsbad Wave FC Golf Day.  The Carlsbad Wave Invitational was a huge success, raising around $8,000 for our program. All proceeds went to the club with the majority going towards our Scholarship program.

After a wet Sunday afternoon and Monday morning it was looking bleak, the clouds had rolled in and it looked like it could be a wash out. With 80 golfers in attendance, the tournament organizers were not giving into the weather and had made the announcement that it was on!!

The weather wasn’t going to stop these keen golfers; everyone got wrapped up and got ready to head out. It was a 4 ball, Scramble format with a few individual prizes as well as team prizes. There was a longest drive, straightest drive, longest putt and straightest drive. With the top two teams being recognized. After about 30 minutes of playing the sky had cleared and it turned out to be another beautiful California day. With 20 groups of 4 making their way around El Camino Country Club, there was nothing but a fun and cheerful atmosphere out on the course with all groups interacting and having a good time!

After the golfers were finished, they entered the dining room to tuck into a superb buffet styled dinner, accompanied by families from the club. This truly gave it a club type atmosphere with coaches and various parents interacting and sharing stories of events that had occurred during the day and the excitement of the upcoming soccer season, was a hot topic on everyone’s lips.

Soon after dinner, the top two teams were announced as well as the individual prizes. Congratulations to Rob Mekjian, Dale Moody, Jeff Colton and Brad Green who’s score of 16 under par was enough to win it by 4 shots. 2nd place went to Edward Hogan’s 4 ball, with a tremendous 12 under par. Once the winners were announced it was on to the raffle. With some fantastic prizes on offer provided by a host of sponsors and donations. It then came to a close with the silent auction.

Winning team with a score of -16: (L-R) Brad Green, Rob Mekjian, Jeff Colton, Dale Moody
