The Carlsbad Wave Boys U10 Black team won the Manchester Cup on June 11, 2012 displaying tremendous team spirit during the two day, four game event.
A focus to win and steady play from goaltenders, defense, midfield, and strikers set the tone for redemption after placing second in the season opening tournament two weeks earlier.
The team’s determination to earn the cup was characterized by dominating group play statistics – most points, most goals for, least goals against, and two shutouts in three games – made possible by contributions from every position across the pitch.
During the championship game, Coach Rigo watched as his team opened with a breakaway goal early in the first half that rocked the opposing team. The Wave continued its strong performance scoring four straight goals including two headers from corner kicks, which is fast emerging as a signature play and difference maker. The final result: 5 to 0.
At the awards ceremony, the players received individual medals while the club collected another cup for its trophy case compliments of Carlsbad Wave Boys U10 Black.
