Carlsbad United FC Club Day Out – LCC v Carlsbad HS – Friday, 01/31

First Official Carlsbad United FC Club Night Out will be happening this coming Friday, the 31st of January. We are encouraging all BOYS TEAMS to go to the LCC v Carlsbad High MENS SOCCER GAME, played at Maverick Stadium @ La Costa Canyon High School, KO at 5:15pm, AND we are encouraging all GIRLS TEAMS to go to the Carlsbad High v LCC GIRLS SOCCER GAME, played at The Carlsbad High School Stadium, KO at 5:15pm.

These games are BIGGIES in the High School Soccer Calendar so try to get down and enjoy. Also, especially for the younger kids, it is great for them to witness high quality High School Soccer. Whether the kids plan to go to a High School in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, San Marcos etc doesn’t really matter, just that they should aspire to play High School Soccer does, and watching these games should act as inspiration.

Lets all get out there and represent Carlsbad United FC with pride!

Wave Wins Big at Coronado Cup

Wave teams closed out 2013 in style at the Coronado Holiday Cup, December 14-15 with several teams taking home the silverware.

The BU9 Blue team (pictured on the home slider) won the cup after winning all 4 games, including two very tough games against Chula Vista Premier, winning 4-3 on Saturday morning in group play, and again edging them in the Championship game 2-1 on Sunday afternoon thanks to great goals from Jeremy Soto and Jake Genewitz.  Coach Alex has done a fantastic job coaching these boys in their first year!

The GU12 Black team won a dramatic penalty shoot out to take home the trophy, avenging a 0-1 defeat against Nado from earlier in the tournament.   Congratulations to Coach Courtney and the girls.

Both of Coach Nick Howitt’s teams finished as runners up; the BU10 Black team falling to Nado in the Championship game after a great weekend, and the BU9 Black team losing a tough penalty shoot out in their Championship game vs Manchester.

Coach Brad’s GU8 Black team made the final after  topping the group with 1 win and 2 draws. The girls started a little slow in the final, and found themselves 2 down within 10 minutes. They showed great character to get back into the game but unfortunately for them it was too little too late and they ended up losing 2-1.

Finally, GU11 Black team (pictured below) were runner’s up, losing the final 3-1 to Carlsbad Lightning after a good showing in the group stages.

Overall it was a great weekend for Wave, and congratulations to all teams and coaches on their successes!

GU12 All Stars Win Championship

The Carlsbad Wave GU12 All-Stars showed a lot of heart and determination during the So Cal All Star Tournament in Oceanside December 14 & 15 and earned the Championship Trophy for their efforts.  After battling through the first half with Fallbrook in the opening game, the girls settled in and came together scoring two goals for a 2-0 victory.  Next came the highly regarded tournament favorite Oceanside Breakers.  The girls came out on fire, controlling the first half with several chances that just missed, but couldn’t put anything in goal.  Midway through the second half the girls found the net, scoring the lone goal for a 1-0 victory in a highly competitive game.  The victory put the team into the semi-finals on Sunday vs. San Marcos, coming through again in the second half for 2 more goals for another 2-0 victory.

The Final would be a rematch against the Oceanside Breakers who advanced on PK’s vs. Scripps Ranch.  It was another highly competitive game with the Wave defense showing their strength, shutting down the Breakers, while the offense came through yet again in the second half with a great goal to provide the 1-0 win and secure the tournament championship.

Said Coach McMahon, “We are so proud of these girls. They really came together this weekend, producing some great team play and passing.  We had different girls creating chances and scoring, and a defense that was awesome, not allowing a goal during the tournament.   I can honestly say each and every player made great contributions in every game. These were great TEAM victories, and a great TEAM championship.”  Congratulations to our Wave GU12 All-Stars.  Well done.

Carlsbad Lightning and Carlsbad Wave Soccer Clubs merge to form ‘Carlsbad United F.C.’
Local Soccer clubs combine to create a community club that offers a great place to enjoy and learn the game of soccer
Carlsbad, Friday, December 13th

On Wednesday evening at around 8pm it was announced that Carlsbad Lightning and Carlsbad Wave had successfully merged, following a unanimously favorable member vote from both clubs. The new combined club will be called ‘Carlsbad United F.C.’ and will see both clubs join forces to boast an impressive tally of over 4300 players (including recreational) and nearly 100 competitive teams.

It has been a merger of equals with both clubs splitting the board of directors roles right down the middle. Lightning President and now Carlsbad United Co-President Tawnya Clark commented, “Our goal as a club has always been the continued development of programs that enable opportunities for players at all levels of the game, and with this merger we believe that will only continue to expand. We also have a strong focus on this being a ‘community club’ and will endeavor to keep the family feel that both Wave and Lightning have maintained over the years. We are very excited about the future of Carlsbad United.”
“I am delighted at the opportunity this brings for all soccer players, parents, and coaches in Carlsbad,” said Wave Director and now Carlsbad United Technical Director Steve Cowell.
Cowell continued, “Combining all the resources available to us will help us achieve soccer excellence at the local, regional, and national level, and will provide a home for every player in Carlsbad to play soccer regardless of their level of play.”
CLSCs DOC and now Carlsbad United’s Director of Operations Michael Duggan also added, “These are exciting times for us all. Over the past 15 years Lightning have reached lots of mile stones. We started as Leucadia Lighting, graduated to Carlsbad Lightning, then introduced the Carlsbad Elite Program and our now very successful College Showcase in the November Nights. Every year our program has grown, both recreationally and competitively. This next journey will be just as exciting but more importantly the rewards will benefit the entire soccer community of Carlsbad. I look forward to working together with everyone involved.”
Boys Director Glenn Malone also contributed his thoughtful insight, “As a club it would have been easy to carry on with what we were doing but as directors we have always felt the need to improve and better ourselves and the program. As directors we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the board members and volunteers for not only all their hard work but their support in sharing our vision for the future of soccer in Carlsbad. A special thanks to Rick Kreysar who was the lead man in putting all the pieces together and pushing us over the line!”
Carlsbad United F.C. Mission Statement:
Our vision is to be recognized as a “Pioneering Leader” in total player development at local, regional and national levels, building character, confidence and self-esteem. Carlsbad United FC is committed to teaching values of sportsmanship, teamwork and respect through a positive learning environment. We offer player development for players desiring College Prep as well as those who want to play in a less stress/less competitive environment.
