Carlsbad Wave 2011 Season Survey Update

Dear Wave Families,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback through our survey. This survey has served to help our membership provide the board members and coaching staff with valuable feedback and help us to prioritize our club. As a club, we are continuously working to provide the best possible soccer experience for every player and their family.  As you may know, 2011 was a year of tremendous growth for our club and we grew to more than 1675 players.  With such growth, we faced many challenges, some of which we were already aware and some of which you have brought to our attention through your feedback. We have made steady progress and I’m confident that the best is yet to come. We appreciate your input !
As an update, we continue to review all areas of our operation to make improvements where we can.  Some of the initiatives we already have underway include:

2012 Club Initiatives

Club Communication. We have begun our club communication initiative by completely updating our Website.  Please take a look at www.carlsbadwavefc.com.  Our goal is to have the website be the main portal of information about activities in our club and where the answers to many questions can be found..  We are also planning to have newsletter types of eBlasts with important information sent out regularly to the club.  We are working to make sure information is posted and/or emailed in a timely manner.

If you cannot find the answers, please communicate with the appropriate board member via e-mail. We hold twelve open Board meetings annually. You are always welcome to attend, ask any questions and receive answers.
Player Package.  As part of the recreational soccer registration fee for 2012, we have expanded our player package to include: Uniform; Practice T-Shirt; Picture Package; Friday Night Clinics; Paid Referees for U8+; and a Trophy.

Coaching Education.  As an organization, not only are our coaches required to be trained and licensed, but we also provide continuing age appropriate training through the season.  In addition, our Director of Coaching is working on expanding our mentoring program where new or inexperienced coaches will have access to an experienced mentor.  Also, he is working to update our Wave Coaching Handbook which will be a valuable resource available to all coaches.  Whether you are new to coaching or have been coaching for a while, we are here to help you be successful!

Referee Program. For 2012, we have a new Referee Coordinator whose mission is to focus on Training, Mentoring and Scheduling our referees.  In the past, we relied on local referee associations to handle our scheduling and this season we will bring this responsibility within our club for the U8 to U12 age groups so that we have the priority this critical function deserves.  In order to build on our current referee program and help make this program successful, we want to encourage our Wave families and their older children (U12 and up) to become involved.  The best part is that our referees will be paid to have all of that fun!

Sponsorship Program. In a conscious effort to keep our registration fees low so that all players have the opportunity to play, we do rely on club wide fundraising activities to help offset some of the costs of scholarships, equipment, field maintenance and other costs associated with running the league.  In order to shift some of the fundraising from our families, we are working on a sponsorship program that will encourage Team Sponsors, Corporate Sponsors and Dine-outs.  So we look forward to your support of these activities as we roll them out and would very much appreciate your help in making our sponsorship program a success.

Like any other volunteer run organization, the backbone of our operation is the volunteers themselves.  As you can imagine, running a league of this size takes a team of people.  Although we greatly appreciate your input, the next step is to volunteer some of your time to help make Carlsbad Wave the best place to play soccer.  We are eager to have more help so if you have a specific talent, interest , some extra time, or even if it’s to work on specific projects that we identify during the year , please let us know as we would love to have your help.

Thanks for choosing Wave and we will see you on the field for an exciting 2012 season!
