SeaLions Ride The Wave!

Wave players received a special treat during their training camp at Aviara Park on Wednesday, when the San Diego SeaLions showed up to meet the girls!

SeaLions players and coaches were on hand to talk with the girls about their experiences growing up with soccer, and gave advice on what it takes to succeed as a female soccer player at the highest level.  The players signed autographs, took pictures, and even worked out with the U12-15 girls in the afternoon, putting the Wave players through their paces.

Wave’s very own Coach and San Diego SeaLion MICHELLE RAMIREZ was on hand, and was a huge hit with the girls.

Wave Director Of Coaching Steve Cowell: “We are very excited that the Sealions came out to meet our Wave players.  In a sport where participation numbers are even between girls and boys, but the majority of coaches are male, it’s very important that the girls have positive female role models who are active in the game… We are especially proud of our very own Wave coach Michelle Ramirez, an impact player for the Sealions, and someone who is great to have in our club, to pass on her knowledge to our girls, and provide them with an excellent role model.  We hope to see the Sealions here with the Wave again soon.”

The San Diego SeaLions return home to Cathedral Catholic High on July 8 to take on Beach FC at 2:00PM. This is the last regular season match for San Diego, and will determine whether or not they will advance to the playoffs. Come out and show your support for Women’s Soccer, and your very own Carlsbad Wave coach and SeaLions’ defender, Michele Ramirez. Let’s get your SeaLions to the playoffs!

Go Wave, and Go SeaLions!!

GU10 Win “Kickin It” Challenge

June 24 2012… Poway, CA.

Coach Courtney and the GU10 Black team had a very hot, and very successful weekend at the Kickin It Challenge, winning all 4 games and bringing home the Championship.

Saturday saw two close 1-0 wins over FC Heat and Kodiak, whilst on Sunday Wave defeated Avengers 3-1, before seeing off Kodiak 2-1 in the Championship game.

The big winners from the weekend however were the San Diego Affiliate of the Susan G Komen Foundation for the cure, who benefited from the tournament proceeds.  Girls, we are proud of your efforts on the field this weekend, and also appreciate you putting your soccer efforts forward to help the fight against Breast Cancer!

Go Wave!

BU10 Black Team – Manchester Cup Champs

The Carlsbad Wave Boys U10 Black team won the Manchester Cup on June 11, 2012 displaying tremendous team spirit during the two day, four game event.

A focus to win and steady play from goaltenders, defense, midfield, and strikers set the tone for redemption after placing second in the season opening tournament two weeks earlier.

The team’s determination to earn the cup was characterized by dominating group play statistics – most points, most goals for, least goals against, and two shutouts in three games – made possible by contributions from every position across the pitch.

During the championship game, Coach Rigo watched as his team opened with a breakaway goal early in the first half that rocked the opposing team.  The Wave continued its strong performance scoring four straight goals including two headers from corner kicks, which is fast emerging as a signature play and difference maker.  The final result: 5 to 0.

At the awards ceremony, the players received individual medals while the club collected another cup for its trophy case compliments of Carlsbad Wave Boys U10 Black.
